Number of foster care registrations in Limburg more than doubled in 10 years
In Limburg, the number of children registered for foster care has more than doubled over the past decade, reaching 579 in 2025. This increase reflects a 161% rise since 2015, when only 221 children were registered. Although there was a slight decrease of 16% from the peak of 675 registrations in 2024, the overall numbers remain high. Jana Bens from Pleegzorg Limburg attributes this trend to increasing societal pressures on parents, particularly financial strains. Additionally, foster care is increasingly viewed as the primary form of youth assistance. Despite the high demand, the placement of children in foster homes has improved, with 1,473 placements in 2025, a 31% increase from 2021. Pleegzorg Limburg continues to seek new foster families to provide stable environments for children in need.
