Absolute strictness: the government toughens its stance against Mohu

The Hungarian government plans to tighten regulations on Mohu, as outlined in a draft law. If waste cannot be properly transferred due to Mohu or its subcontractor's fault, authorities could exempt the waste owner from liability and compel Mohu or the subcontractor to accept it. Subcontractors could also be exempt if they timely reported issues that Mohu failed to address. Future violations by the company would incur mandatory fines instead of warnings, and the minister would have 15 days to amend illegal contract terms. The draft also aims to reduce food waste by 10% in the food industry and 30% in trade, hospitality, and households by 2030 compared to 2021-2023 averages. The government, led by Péter Magyar, must urgently decide on the waste concession transferred to a subsidiary of Mol, with the industry demanding full liberalization.
