Anafre suspends protest that closed parishes

The National Association of Parishes (Anafre) has suspended its planned protest action after progress in negotiations regarding the 2027 State Budget. Anafre announced a reinforcement of approximately 50 million euros through the Parish Financing Fund, resulting in a total increase of about 20% compared to 2026. Although this is the largest increase ever, it still falls short of their desired amount due to unforeseen circumstances like recent storms. The negotiations also secured the recognition of parishes' right of first refusal in property acquisitions and access to medium-term credit for housing projects. Anafre will present a conditional opinion on the 2027 budget proposal in the Assembly of the Republic, with the final vote scheduled for November 24.
