Support for Douro winemakers received 380 applications

The Portuguese government announced a support package of 12 million euros for Douro winemakers who left grapes unharvested due to sales issues, receiving around 380 applications. This exceptional aid aims to ensure a minimum income for these producers and prevent vineyard abandonment. The applications were accepted from late September to mid-October, targeting areas of vineyards not harvested in the 2026/2027 season. The initiative follows a significant drop in wine production last year, highlighting ongoing challenges in grape marketing. The final vote on the 2027 State Budget is scheduled for November 24.
