National Road Safety Strategy 2030 Approved
The Portuguese government has approved the National Road Safety Strategy 2030, aiming to halve road fatalities and serious injuries by 2030 compared to 2019. This strategy, which had been pending since 2021, focuses on improving infrastructure, protecting vulnerable road users, preventing risky behaviors, and enhancing victim response. It will be implemented through two action plans in 2027/2028 and 2029/2030. Recent statistics show an increase in road accidents and fatalities, with 128,361 accidents reported this year, marking a 5.2% rise from last year, alongside a 10.8% increase in deaths.
