Archaeologists complete excavations at the Palingbeek golf course in Ypres: remains of 141 soldiers found
Excavations at the Palingbeek golf course in Ypres have concluded after 1.5 years, revealing significant World War I battlefield remains. Archaeologists uncovered the remains of at least 141 soldiers, over 2,000 war artifacts, and 720 pieces of ammunition. The project, initiated due to the golf club's expansion, included the discovery of German tunnels and a well-preserved French trench from 1914. Notable finds include a British bugle and a French officer's saber, which highlight the personal stories of soldiers. Some artifacts will be displayed at the In Flanders Fields Museum, with a special exhibition scheduled for November 11.
