Braga Academic Bar: homicide sentence reduced
The Guimarães Court of Appeal reduced the prison sentence of a Brazilian man from 21.5 years to 17.5 years for the fatal stabbing of a young man outside a bar in Braga. The court acquitted him of certain charges related to the homicide but convicted him of aggravated homicide. The incident occurred during a night out in April 2025, following a confrontation over a perceived drugging of a woman's drink. The court noted the disproportionate response of the accused, who used a kitchen knife to stab the victim three times. The accused showed no remorse during the trial and will also face expulsion from Portugal after serving his sentence, along with a compensation payment to the victim's parents.
