Belas: illegal lodging persists and goes to the Public Ministry

The PSP will forward a case to the Public Prosecutor regarding a space in Belas, Sintra, used for worker accommodation without a license and inadequate living conditions. The Metropolitan Command of Lisbon reported that the police and municipal civil protection inspected the site, previously identified for housing workers, which was found to have been improvised with metal structures and drywall, lacking windows and natural light. The space contained 45 rooms and only two sanitary facilities, showing signs of overcrowding and poor hygiene. The operator admitted to not having a license for residential purposes. Despite previous inspections, the space continues to be used for accommodation, prompting the civil protection to prepare a technical report on the serious safety deficiencies. If a legitimate order to cease use is confirmed, continued use may constitute a crime of disobedience.
