The BYD Yangwang U9 electric sports car has set a new speed record of 503.17 km/h, surpassing its previous record. Driver Marc Basseng achieved this speed in Abu Dhabi, using a 1200 V platform with 3019 horsepower. This record is recognized by Guinness and FIA, although it was only recorded in one direction. The journey to this achievement faced challenges, including a recent serious accident involving a similar vehicle.
