Trees make way for a stronger forest in Zonhoven: residents can buy local firewood
The Agentschap voor Natuur en Bos is conducting thinning operations in the Geelberg nature reserve to promote healthier tree growth. Trees are being removed to reduce competition for resources, allowing stronger trees to thrive. The wood from these operations will be sold as firewood, with a bidding event scheduled for December 12. The wood, primarily from oak, lime, and hazel, is not suitable for industrial use but can be utilized locally. The initiative aims to enhance biodiversity and resilience against diseases and climate change.
