British town crier sets record as loudest woman in the world
Brenda Willison set a Guinness World Record for the loudest female town crier with a shout of 105.9 decibels. She believes she could have been louder if not for a cold. Willison became the town crier of Peterborough in 1997 after her daughter entered her into the competition. The term "oyez" means "hear ye" and is derived from Anglo-Norman. Last year, an Australian town crier set the record for the loudest male shout at 122.4 decibels.
