There are hardly any Wekerle-style properties advertised in Budapest
The number of new apartments in Hungary has significantly increased, with 9,803 units completed in the first three quarters of 2026, marking a 31% rise from the previous year. The Wekerle Plusz program, offering loans at a fixed 3% interest rate for new home purchases and construction, is expected to drive demand. As of late October, there were 10,778 new properties for sale, a 28% increase year-on-year. Notably, 4,547 of these properties meet the Wekerle Plusz criteria, with a majority located outside Budapest. The program's impact varies by location, with only 16% of new homes in Budapest qualifying, while 83% in rural areas do. This trend may shift demand towards smaller cities.
