Railway disaster in Spain: the European prosecutor opens an investigation into possible fraud on the accident line in Urda
The European Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into potential fraud involving EU funds for the renovation of the high-speed rail line between Madrid and Seville, following a recent train collision that resulted in 69 fatalities. This investigation follows a similar inquiry initiated in March after another accident on the same line that killed 46 people. The current probe focuses on possible fraud affecting funds allocated for safety improvements and communication systems on the line. Investigative measures are being conducted with ADIF, the public company managing Spain's rail infrastructure. Transport Minister Oscar Puente resigned following the incidents.
