CES: there is a significant deficit in public construction
The president of the Economic and Social Council (CES) highlighted the persistent housing crisis in Portugal, emphasizing the need for public construction and long-term solutions. During a parliamentary hearing regarding the 2027 State Budget, Luís Pais Antunes noted that the housing issue is widespread across Europe and is compounded by significant market constraints. He stressed the importance of protecting vulnerable populations from rental increases and proposed that the CES is preparing a report on housing policy to be released next year. Additionally, he acknowledged the positive short-term trends in Social Security but warned against using these as justification for immediate policy changes without thorough consideration.
