Fuels. Mozambique installs eight vehicle gas stations

The Mozambican government is installing eight natural gas vehicle refueling stations in three southern provinces to address the fuel crisis, expected to be operational by 2027. Minister Estêvão Pale announced this initiative, which aims to expand access to natural gas and enhance public transport using gas-powered buses. The government has also implemented measures to mitigate fuel shortages, including a temporary ban on the re-export of fuels intended for domestic consumption. The fuel scarcity has affected families and sectors like agriculture, prompting increased operational capacity at fuel terminals and police presence at stations. Mozambique spent $236.4 million on fuel imports in early 2026, a slight decrease from the previous year, while rising international prices led to an increase in administered fuel prices.
