Body dismisses a possible cut of the high-speed line between Madrid and Barcelona

Carlos Cuerpo, Spain's Minister of Economy, confirmed that there are no plans to close the high-speed rail line between Madrid and Barcelona. He emphasized the importance of restoring public confidence and ensuring safety following a recent train accident that resulted in numerous fatalities. Cuerpo stated that recovery efforts will commence once authorized by the judiciary. He also addressed the resignation of his predecessor, Óscar Puente, as a responsible action. In discussions with railway unions, he aims to fulfill commitments made after previous accidents, although a planned strike by train drivers remains in place. Cuerpo plans to meet with victims of recent accidents and highlighted the need for increased investment in the railway system to address its deterioration.
