Four banks must change their procedures
The President of UOKiK raised concerns about banks' handling of unauthorized transaction claims, where funds are withdrawn without customer consent. Banks like ING, BOŚ, Nest Bank, and Plus Bank have reportedly denied refunds in many cases. According to UOKiK, banks must refund customers promptly unless fraud is suspected or over 13 months have passed. The banks shifted the burden of proof onto customers, claiming proper transaction authentication absolves them of responsibility. UOKiK mandated these banks to revise their practices, ensuring that authentication alone does not imply customer consent. They must also reassess past claims and inform customers about their decisions. Similar actions were taken against other banks earlier this year.
