Germany rehearses crisis scenario during extreme heat
Germany is conducting a large-scale crisis management simulation called Lükex 26, involving around 180 agencies and companies. The exercise, which runs until Friday, is based on a fictional scenario of five consecutive drought years followed by a heatwave with temperatures reaching 45 degrees Celsius. Participants from ten federal states and various organizations will practice strategic decision-making to protect the population under realistic conditions, focusing on crisis communication. This is the largest national simulation to date, coordinated by the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), with preparations starting in November 2024. Previous exercises have addressed issues like gas shortages and mysterious disease outbreaks.
