Financial director of the Judicial Police removed from office
The national director of the Judicial Police decided not to renew the service commission of the current financial director, Álvaro Pires. Pires stated he was informed of the decision but not given reasons, mentioning it was deemed inappropriate to renew his commission. Reports suggest Pires provided incorrect information regarding the costs of destroying seized materials in Operation Pacoba. Additionally, concerns arose over his connections with contractor João Santos Carvalho, who had undertaken renovations at Pires' home and received multiple contracts from the Judicial Police worth approximately 2.3 million euros between 2019 and 2024.
