German supermarket employee pockets 200,000 with thousands of fake deposit slips

A former supermarket employee in Germany is accused of forging bottle deposit slips, allegedly stealing around €230,000. The fraud was discovered during an annual inventory check. The 37-year-old man reportedly submitted 2,299 fake slips, collecting €90 to €100 per slip. Initially a trainee, he became the manager responsible for the deposit machines. He admits to stealing but claims the amount is only €45,000. The supermarket initially sought a private resolution, but a lawsuit followed when he stopped repaying after losing his job. His lifestyle raised suspicions, as he purchased expensive watches and attended football matches. Due to the fraud, a new limit of €5 for bottle deposits has been implemented.
