Finally new hot air balloon for paratroopers in Schaffen, Francken invests 5.5 million
The paratrooper training center in Schaffen will acquire a new hot air balloon, approved by Defense Minister Theo Francken. The current balloon has been out of service for years, limiting training options to airplane jumps. The new balloon, costing 5.5 million euros, will enhance training efficiency and reduce costs compared to using aircraft. The center faced delays in finding a manufacturer but has now secured a contract. The balloon setup allows for jumps from 300 meters, accommodating four jumpers at a time. The center has utilized balloons since 1946 and aims to celebrate its 80th anniversary next year with the new balloon, pending its construction.
