The international delegation examining the Hungarian situation is satisfied with the initial media reforms.

A delegation from the International Press Institute (IPI) and 12 other organizations visited Hungary to assess the media situation. They met with representatives from various media bodies and government ministries. The delegation noted progress in dismantling institutions from the Fidesz era and amending media laws to restore public media independence. However, they emphasized that true success depends on effective legal reforms addressing remaining issues and preventing future political interference. They called for urgent amendments to data protection laws to include exceptions for journalistic data processing. Additionally, they criticized the lack of transparency regarding political surveillance since 2010, despite promises from the interior minister.
