In Italy, a "wealth exit tax" for the wealthy

In the past decade, Italian governments have aimed to attract ultra-wealthy individuals through tax optimization. However, as the 2027 elections approach, a significant adjustment is underway. The proposed 2027 budget includes a "exit tax" targeting wealthy individuals leaving the country. Unlike other major European economies, Italy has not implemented such measures until now. This tax would apply to financial income earned during residency in Italy, above 800,000 euros, taxing only unrealized capital gains at a rate of 26%.
