Spain. European Prosecutor investigates possible frauds in funds related to the railway accident.
The European Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into potential fraud involving EU funds for the modernization of the Madrid-Seville railway line, where a deadly train accident occurred. This marks the second investigation this year regarding the same infrastructure. Investigative actions are being conducted at various Spanish railway institutions. The investigation follows a previous inquiry opened in March concerning the same railway. While the prosecutor's office has not linked the fraud allegations directly to the accident, which resulted in 69 fatalities, it highlights ongoing concerns about railway safety and funding. The Spanish Transport Minister resigned following the incident, which was the second deadly high-speed train accident in Spain this year.
