Nébih regains an important role from Orbán's creation
The Hungarian food chain supervision has been unified again under the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) from November, returning responsibilities from the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH). This change allows Nébih to operate with a coordinated professional approach across the entire food chain, ensuring food safety for both domestic and foreign products. The NKFH was established by the Orbán government in January 2025, placing food safety under its control. The previous government argued that merging commercial, consumer protection, and food safety tasks would enhance oversight, while the current change aims for the same goal of unification. Agricultural Minister István Nagy will have reduced powers, while National Economy Minister Márton Nagy will have increased authority with the establishment of NKFH next year.
