Government admits to reviewing the regime of fast boats

The Minister of Justice, Rita Alarcão Júdice, indicated in parliament the possibility of amending laws regarding high-speed vessels, particularly criminalizing fuel transport. During a parliamentary hearing on the government's budget proposal, she highlighted the critical issue of drug trafficking using such vessels. The government is considering various measures, including preventive detention and legal changes, and has requested a technical-legal analysis from the Directorate-General for Justice Policy. Recent fuel seizures linked to drug trafficking have led to a solution for allocating these fuels to the national reserve, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment. The current legal regime for high-speed vessels, effective since May 17, imposes prison sentences and fines for illegal activities related to these vessels.
