Government ensures that disadvantaged students will not be harmed by the unfreezing of tuition fees

The government assures that low-income students will not be affected by the planned tuition fee increases in the upcoming state budget. Education Minister Fernando Alexandre stated that higher education institutions must reinvest 15% of tuition revenues into social services. The government aims to lift the tuition freeze for undergraduate programs, which has been in place since 2020, a proposal previously blocked by the opposition. Additionally, Alexandre announced that the number of students without classes will be revealed in December, with 255 teaching positions currently unfilled, over 160 of which are full-time. The ministry will also continue revising the secondary school curriculum, including mandatory mathematics from grades 10 to 12.
