Government forecasts 88 million to keep teachers in schools
The Portuguese government plans to allocate 88 million euros in 2027 to address the shortage of teachers, supporting those who work far from home or delay retirement. The initiative, part of the +Classes +Success Plan, aims to attract new educators and retain existing ones. Last year, measures led to 5,535 new teachers entering public schools, with 2,232 extending their careers. The focus will be on areas with the greatest need, particularly in Greater Lisbon, Setúbal Peninsula, and the Algarve. The overall education budget is approximately 7.788 billion euros, with significant funds dedicated to personnel costs and educational resources.
