Herentals builds new daycare to address shortage of childcare: "Space for 56 children"

Herentals is constructing a new daycare center on the site of the old art academy to address the increasing demand for childcare. The current facility, 'Hummeltjeshof', is outdated and can only accommodate 32 children, while the new building will have space for 56. Bieke Baeten, the local alderman for childcare, emphasized the need for more places, noting that parents often have to reserve spots before even knowing they are pregnant. The new center will be more sustainable and spacious, using natural materials. An information evening is scheduled for November 17, and the city plans to complete the project by 2029, investing approximately 3 million euros.
