IGAS opens inquiry into the death of a patient in Portimão

The Algarve Local Health Unit is launching an inquiry into the death of an 87-year-old man who waited approximately 10 hours for treatment at the Portimão Emergency Service. The man, who had multiple health issues, arrived at the hospital with complaints of vomiting and abdominal pain. He was triaged as yellow but was found unconscious after being called for observation. The hospital administration is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred during a period of increased patient demand. The president of the ULS noted that the hospital experienced a higher than usual influx of patients that day, which may have contributed to the delays.
