They calculated who the government is squeezing with the transformation of the transaction fee
The upcoming changes to the transaction tax regulations in Hungary are expected to significantly increase the proportion of tax-exempt individual forint transfers from approximately 62% to nearly 80%. Starting January 1, 2027, the tax-free threshold for personal transfers will rise from 50,000 HUF to 150,000 HUF. According to the Hungarian National Bank, a large percentage of individual transfers fall within the lower value brackets, indicating that households will benefit from these changes. However, the overall transaction volume shows that higher-value transfers dominate the market. The government anticipates an increase of 40 billion HUF in revenue from transaction taxes due to these adjustments, despite the unchanged tax rate of 0.45%.
