Kosiniak-Kamysz announces fundamental changes. Reset on the table
A proposal for a constitutional reset regarding the Constitutional Tribunal (TK) has emerged in Poland, aiming to resolve ongoing disputes. Senator Kazimierz Ujazdowski from the Third Way party suggests changing the constitution to terminate the mandates of current TK judges. After a break, new judges would be appointed by the Sejm, Senate, and President, each selecting five judges. The judges would serve standard nine-year terms, with staggered terms for the first election to prevent simultaneous expirations. Ujazdowski believes this method is preferable to the current requirement of a three-fifths majority in the Sejm, which could lead to candidate selection blockages due to political polarization.
