The European Public Prosecutor's Office launches an operation with the UCO regarding the Urda tragedy and requests documentation from Adif

The European Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a new anti-corruption operation related to the Urda train tragedy. The Civil Guard's Central Operational Unit is requesting information from Adif, the Court of Auditors, and the Railway Safety Agency. This investigation follows concerns about potential fraud involving European funds aimed at improving safety and signaling on the high-speed train line between Madrid and Seville, where the accident occurred on October 28. The Prosecutor's Office initiated this inquiry due to the severity of the incident, which previously led to another investigation regarding European funds for railway maintenance after a deadly accident in Adamuz, Córdoba. Such ex officio investigations are rare, with only four out of over a hundred initiated in 2025.
