The director of the Serbian Hydrometeorological Institute has been arrested

Jugoslav Nikolic, the director of the Serbian Republic Hydrometeorological Institute, was arrested in Belgrade on suspicion of money laundering. He and two associates allegedly attempted to conceal the origins of at least 650,000 euros linked to criminal activities. Between November 2019 and November 2024, they reportedly engaged in various financial transactions and real estate purchases in Serbia and Montenegro to launder money. Nikolic is accused of depositing significant amounts into his bank accounts without being able to prove their legal origin. His arrest is part of a broader crackdown following the Serbian Progressive Party's electoral defeat on October 25, leading to investigations against several former state and police officials.
