Lisbon honors November 25 with a new avenue
The Lisbon City Council approved the naming of a section of the Central Axis as "Avenida 25 de Novembro (1975)". The proposal, supported by the Culture Councilor Diogo Moura, faced opposition from several parties. The date commemorates a significant moment in Portuguese history, marking the end of the Revolutionary Process and the establishment of a representative democracy. Additionally, the council unanimously awarded cultural merit medals to actress Maria Rueff and television presenter Eládio Clímaco. A proposal to name another section after Jorge Sampaio was postponed. The meeting was briefly suspended due to a dispute over cleaning costs related to housing protests, leading to a challenge from the PS party regarding the legality of the suspension.
