Lula in the Philippines for ASEAN summit
The Brazilian President will visit the Philippines next week to strengthen ties with Southeast Asia and expand export markets. Lula's visit on November 14-15 coincides with the 49th ASEAN summit and marks the first visit by a Brazilian head of state to the Philippines, celebrating 80 years of diplomatic relations. The Brazilian government views ASEAN as a strategic market to diversify exports and reduce reliance on traditional partners. Brazil's trade with ASEAN countries has significantly increased, with a tenfold growth from 2003 to 2025. Lula aims to boost exports of products like coffee and processed foods and will participate in a Brazil-Philippines business forum with 113 Brazilian companies. Discussions will also cover cooperation in defense and agriculture, as well as renewing Brazil's sanitary inspection equivalence certificate.
