Hungary opens archives on informants of the communist secret police
Hungary is gradually making public the files of informants from the communist secret police, starting with around sixty thousand names. A further release is planned for February. Prime Minister Péter Magyar emphasizes that this is a necessary reckoning with the past that should have happened long ago. Previously, only historians had access to the archives, and individuals could only search for themselves or close relatives.
