Majority of those arrested on the 20th decided to go to trial
Most of the protesters detained on October 20 in Lisbon have chosen to go to trial, while the possibility of the case being archived by the Public Prosecutor's Office remains open. Lawyer Ricardo Sá Fernandes noted that only a small number accepted a provisional suspension of the process. The Public Prosecutor's Office may consider archiving the inquiry due to a recent court ruling allowing protests, including overnight demonstrations. The decision on whether to archive the case or proceed to trial is still pending. Those who accepted the suspension must donate to a charity, while those going to trial could face fines or imprisonment. The police have used a 1974 decree to disperse protests, and the constitutionality of this law is under review.
