More than forty pilot whales die in mass stranding in New Zealand

On Thursday morning, 43 marine animals were found stranded on the coast of Ngawi, New Zealand. Despite rescue efforts by Maori tribes and volunteers, none of the whales survived. Almost half were already dead upon discovery, and the remaining twenty died throughout the day. The remote location complicated rescue attempts, as the whales were scattered over several kilometers of coastline, often found among rocks. Pilot whales, part of the dolphin family, can grow up to 7 meters long and weigh up to 3 tons. This mass stranding is currently under investigation.
