It was supposed to be the last coal power plant in Poland. Now 25 people face charges
An investigation overseen by the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Białystok is underway, focusing on alleged abuses by energy company officials from 2018-2019. The Central Anti-Corruption Bureau has detained 25 individuals, including Grzegorz Ksepko, linked to the Ostrołęka power plant project, with damages exceeding 1 billion PLN. The project, initially started in 2009, faced financial issues and was halted in 2020 due to lack of economic justification. A gas-fired plant is now being constructed instead, with completion expected by February 2027.
