Billions were spent on food rescue by Orbán and his team, but not a crumb was managed to be given to the poor.
The Tisza government is dissolving the Food Rescue Center, an initiative created to reduce food waste during Orbán's tenure. The center was supposed to collect near-expiry food from major retailers and distribute it to those in need, but it failed to fulfill its responsibilities. Over four years, the government spent at least 9.1 billion HUF on the center, which included significant expenditures on an IT system that was never accessed. Meanwhile, food waste in Hungary has shown a decreasing trend, with households reducing waste by 37.2% over nine years. However, nearly 200,000 tons of food are still wasted annually. The Food Bank Association, a more effective organization, rescued over 10,000 tons of food last year, highlighting the inefficiency of the Food Rescue Center.
