Minister Gennez removes young doctor from training to specialist in Antwerp hospital: "Patient safety at risk"

Flemish Minister of Welfare Caroline Gennez has removed a young doctor from his specialist training at Ziekenhuis aan de Stroom due to serious errors that endangered patient safety. This intervention is rare for a Welfare Minister. The doctor, who graduated in 2021, had previously undergone training at Universitair Ziekenhuis Antwerpen and was in the process of specialization at ZAS Middelheim. Despite multiple remediation attempts, the doctor failed to meet the required standards. After conflicting recommendations from two committees, Gennez decided to follow the initial advice to terminate the training. The doctor is appealing this decision to the Council of State.
