Production could be limited, unions of Škoda threatened. They are unhappy with the salary freeze.
The chairman of Škoda Auto's union, Jaroslav Povšík, has stated that while there will be no strike, production limitations may occur due to Volkswagen's wage freeze plan until 2030. He emphasized that Škoda cannot bear the brunt of responsibility for the group's financial issues. Although he previously hinted at potential strikes in response to layoffs or factory closures, he has since clarified that strikes are not feasible given the current crisis. However, he warned that if factories were to close, production would halt. Povšík also mentioned that if adequate compensation is not provided, they might slow down production legally. The situation remains tense as negotiations for a new collective agreement for 2027 are ongoing, with the current agreement expiring soon. Meanwhile, the German union IG Metall has warned of possible strikes starting January 2027 if no agreement is reached regarding wage freezes.
