Municipalities request a one-year suspension of the commitments law
The National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP) has proposed a one-year suspension of recent changes to the law on commitments and overdue payments. ANMP President Pedro Pimpão stated that this pause would allow municipalities to adapt to new obligations. He emphasized that the current law is not applicable to daily municipal management and called for a transitional phase for municipalities to adjust. The new law, effective since September, shortens payment deadlines for public entities, making invoices overdue after 30 days instead of 90. This change aims to align Portuguese legislation with European standards.
