International trade unions are protesting in front of Audi in Győr on Monday

International trade unions are organizing a protest on November 9 in Győr, Hungary, to highlight the importance of the automotive industry for 14 million workers. The demonstration aims to draw attention to the threats of job cuts, factory closures, and reduced investments from European decision-makers. Approximately 6-7% of the European workforce is employed in this sector. Delegations from Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, and Slovenia will join local representatives to oppose the downsizing of the automotive industry. Judith Kirton-Darling, General Secretary of IndustriAll, will also participate. Recently, Schaeffler announced the elimination of 3,460 jobs and the closure of five European sites, following a previous announcement of 4,700 job cuts in 2024.
