New Defense Institute Must Keep the Netherlands Safe with Faster Innovations
The Dutch Ministry of Defence aims to enhance innovation through the newly established National Institute for Defence Technology (NIDT). Presented by State Secretary Boswijk, the NIDT will facilitate collaboration between companies and startups to address rapidly changing warfare dynamics, particularly highlighted by the Ukraine conflict. With an annual budget of 350 million euros starting in 2028, the institute seeks to innovate and scale domestic production. The first project focuses on protecting the North Sea from threats like Russian espionage vessels, emphasizing the area's strategic importance for the economy and security. Applications are open to various entities, including startups and universities.
