New tariffs on cheap shipments. Beijing appeals to Brussels

China is closely monitoring new EU regulations regarding cross-border trade, which they view as a new business model offering diverse choices for global consumers. The Chinese trade ministry spokesperson, Huang Ling, expressed hope that the EU would carefully assess the impact of these policies and foster favorable conditions for e-commerce cooperation. This statement follows the EU's introduction of a €2 fee on packages valued under €150 from outside the EU, effective November 1, as part of a new customs code. Combined with a flat fee of €3 implemented in July, the total charge for low-value packages now amounts to €5. European regulators argue that this measure aims to curb the influx of cheap products, primarily from China.
