OE2027: Public Finance Council questions significant revision of interest expenditure
The president of the Public Finance Council, Nazaré da Costa Cabral, raised concerns about the significant revision of interest expenses by the government within three months. During a parliamentary hearing regarding the 2027 State Budget proposal, she noted a lack of coherence in the government's explanations. Interest expenses are projected to rise from €6.6 billion to €8.2 billion in 2027, marking a 23.2% increase. Cabral questioned the rationale behind such a substantial revision without adequate justification. She also pointed out gaps in information regarding storm response expenses and real estate sales, as well as issues in the Defense sector, citing confidentiality as a reason for some restrictions.
