Democrat James Talarico won in Texas, where Musk's companies are based, and pledged to limit large campaign donations. Gina Hinojosa succeeded Republican Governor Greg Abbott, advocating for stricter regulations on data centers, which Musk supports. Hinojosa has filed a lawsuit against Abbott for favorable deals with Musk. Following the elections, Musk suggested space-based data centers, while both Tesla and SpaceX saw a drop in value.
