Customs fees are working. Packages from China are half as many
The introduction of new customs fees has significantly reduced the number of small packages from China to the EU, with a drop of over 60% in the third quarter. The new fees, including a €3 charge for packages valued up to €150 and an additional €2 fee starting November 1, are prompting Asian e-commerce giants to shift more shipments to European warehouses. A full EU customs reform will take effect in July 2028, eliminating exemptions for low-value packages and introducing a centralized monitoring system. Despite the changes, a majority of Polish consumers remain undeterred in their purchases from Chinese platforms, indicating a potential shift towards local distribution.
